Director's Welcome

Welcome to the Pars Equality Center. As I reflect on the past 12 months, I can say it has been a tremendous year for Pars. We have remained true to our community-based philosophy while scaling our programming and growing the client base to which we cater. We continue to experiment and introduce new types of services, and we do so now with a successful seven-year track record behind us. With your support, we are refusing to rest on our laurels and still maintain the agility of a start-up: quickly and effectively responding to client needs as they arise, and anticipating challenges before they appear. Help us celebrate our community’s success. Come along with us on the journey and join us as we carve out this unchartered territory.

Get Involved

Many of us would like to extend a helping hand to those impacted by the devastating earthquake that recently hit Iran.  It is important to keep in mind the U.S. still imposes a strict trade embargo on Iran.  Here are some guidelines regarding what is, and is not, permissible, and some suggested charitable organizations:

If you would like to donate funds, the following U.S. organizations are leading relief efforts and accepting donations:

Mothers Against Poverty (MAP)

Relief International

Guidelines to keep in mind under U.S. law:

  • A U.S. person CANNOT send goods or technologies to Iran (other than those exempted), and CANNOT send funds directly to Iranian charitable organizations, without a proper OFAC license.
  • A U.S. person CAN donate food, clothing, and/or medicine to Iran, if the donations are to relieve human suffering and not for the Government of Iran, restricted agencies or persons, or an Iranian bank.
  • A U.S. person CAN donate to a U.S. NGO (non-governmental organization) assisting in relief efforts.
  • Lastly, an individual may seek to obtain a specific license from OFAC for other humanitarian relief activities.
