About our panelist: 

Dr. Reza Oliyai is currently the Senior Vice President of Pharmaceutical and Biologics Development at Gilead Sciences. He provides strategic leadership to 350 personnel responsible for two main functions: Pharmaceutical development for small molecules and end-to-end development for biologics. His team is also responsible for device development and clinical packaging, labeling, warehousing, and distribution of all products.

Safa Rashtchy is the General Partner and the founder of Think + Ventures. Safa has been an investor in Silicon Valley for more than a decade, with over 30 investments, including seven exits – all to public companies. Safa is an advisor to many Silicon Valley companies and has been on the board various start-ups as well as non-profit organizations. 

Dr. Maria Fardis, PhD, MBA, has been the Chief Executive Officer and President of Iovance Biotherapeutics, Inc. since June 1, 2016. Previously, Dr. Fardis held a number of key scientific and management roles at Gilead Sciences. She has extensive experience in drug development and novel cancer treatments. Prior to joining Lion Biotechnologies, Dr. Fardis served as Chief Operating Officer at Acerta Pharma from January 2015 until March 2016.

Dr. Shawn Dastmalchi is passionate about building teams that solve hard healthcare problems using cutting-edge technologies and tries to help other entrepreneurs to do the same in his spare time. He is co-founder and former CEO of Apixio, the leading provider of risk adjustment solutions using big data technology. He has 15 years of experience leading and pioneering healthcare analytic solutions. He holds a PhD from UC Berkeley.
